supplies for seminary

a random yet incredibly tangible and understandable question that I get often is, “what supplies do you suggest getting for grad school/ seminary?!”

so i’m gonna go through some of the items that have been helpful for me throughout my time of seminary!

  1. planner!

  • this helps with organization not just in a weekly schedule, but with the whole semester! when you get your syllabus for a class, write out throughout your whole planner the due dates of each assignments so that you know which assignments are due!

  • the one that I got is not being sold on amazon anymore so I can’t link anything, but here’s what I would suggest. Get one with a lot of room to write within each day / each week. that way you can write out all the things you gotta get done each day. most seminary classes won’t have too many assignments, week to week. but there is a lot of reading so I liked to break down the reading like assignments and assigned certain pages for each day!

  • assign a different color pen to each class to make things easier!

    2. book stand!

  • This one you can easily look up on amazon! during seminary, you will be reading a ton so it’s important to get a simple stand that you can put to hold your pages / book, especially when you’re writing a paper!

  • I bought this not fully knowing how helpful it would be, but truly a great investment. I believe mine was $17.99!

    3. highlighters & sticky notes

  • these are helpful so that if you want to highlight anything in your books like major themes, key words, etc.

  • I enjoy using sticky notes while I am reading because I can mark a section to go back to when writing a paper!

    4. Bible with big print!

  • this one is obviously optional but has been helpful for me. when you are writing a paper, it’s easier to read the text if it’s bigger font.

    5. How to Stay Christian in Seminary by David Mathis

  • this book should be a prerequisite for anyone to read before starting seminary. obviously being dramatic, but seriously, yall should have it on the shelf.

  • it’s a very small easy read, but some incredible wisdom that was shared for our benefit. $10 on amazon.

That’s just a few things that come to mind that have been the most helpful/ beneficial to me throughout the last year. They seem like small things, and they are, but truly they have helped aid in the small everyday moments of reading for assignments or papers. The book truly is one of the most helpful tools to start out with because it helps give you wisdom before starting. I read it right when I started and it helped me with my perspective on seminary so much!
